The Test Updates

Bangladesh had a big knock in their progress in their 1st Test against West Indies with rain washing out the second day's play while Pakistan suffered heartbreak thanks to Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara's double century to hold out Pakistan for a draw.

Overnight and early morning rain wiped out the second day of play between Bangladesh and West Indies in Chittagong. The overcast conditions also didn't help with the recovery of the state of the pitch and field with several wet patches around the ground. After an hour and 45 minutes or 11:15 am local time, the umpires decided to abandon the day's play. Play has now been scheduled to play half an hour earlier at 9 am local time (03:00 GMT) tomorrow.

Sri Lanka 197 (Mathews 52*, Junaid 5-38) and 483 (Sangakkara 211, P Jayawardene 120, Gul 4-64) drew with Pakistan 511 for 6 dec (Taufeeq 236, Hafeez 75, Ali 70) and 21 for 1
Pakistan have been held to a draw by Kumar Sangakkara's double century as well as Prasanna Jayawardene holding Pakistan with their stand for 6 hours. The overnight standing shown Pakistan needing 81 in their chase of their 2nd innings and more during the day. Sangakkara iis only 1 double century away from matching landmarks of those of Brain Lara and Sir Don Bradman. Azhar Ali toiled for 83 overs without any result but for a couple of wickets from the tail enders which was some consolation if you can say that. Umar Gul topped with figures of 4-64, clearing up the tail with Aizaz Cheema. All out for 483, Pakistan needed 170 of 21 overs and some may question what kind of attitude Pakistan were showing in the 2nd innings as they weren't even having a go at the target of 170 in what was needed to be a Twenty20 style hitting but what Hafeez and Umar was almost sympathetic with playing defensive. With Taufeeq Umar going away for only 7 in 5 overs, it was certain that Pakistan were going to Dubai being the unlucky ones who should've won this game with Sri Lanka being the scrapegoats trying to shake of this tag for the next Test in Dubai.
